Metamorphoses

Metamorphoses is a community-based photographic art project built as a polyptych: 2,048 unique portraits that remain autonomous works while forming one collective image. Each portrait depicts an Envoy of the Universe, a figure imagined as a carrier of attention to the condition of the planet and to the consequences of present choices.

The portraits are hand-made rather than generatively assembled. Sculptural headpieces, styling, colour and directed light give every Envoy an individual presence. Covered or closed eyes shift attention away from ordinary recognition and toward a more instinctive sensitivity to water, earth, fire and air.

The number 2048 marks a future that is distant enough to imagine yet near enough to influence. The project uses the meeting point between physical exhibition, photography and blockchain as a distribution structure for a shared ecological proposition, not as a substitute for the artwork itself.

Fragments of Metamorphoses entered an institutional exhibition context in Venice in 2022 and were later presented in Dubai and Barcelona. The project is authored by Concept2048, the collaborative practice of Ekaterina Perekopskaya and Rostyslav Brenych.
